FUNCTIONAL TRAINING: MUSCLE-STRENGTHENING CLASSES
At Gymnase, located in the Mile-Ex (in the western part of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Montreal), we offer a variety of functional training and muscle strengthening classes:
Morning: Strength
Experience our group functional training and strength classes, specially designed to enhance your physical performance. In each session, we work your muscles in varied ways to build not only strength but also power, endurance, speed, and neuromuscular coordination. We primarily use body weight along with equipment like medicine balls, dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, rings, parallettes, and suspension bars. This diversity of equipment allows us to vary exercises and maximize results. These workouts are intense and dynamic, emphasizing joint mobility to achieve a perfect balance between strengthening and flexibility.
Flow Force & Gentle Mobility
This class is for those looking to restore, maintain, and preserve strength, mobility, and agility long-term. It focuses on functional exercises and movements directly applicable to daily life, offering tangible and lasting benefits. Each session is carefully crafted to combine effectiveness with gentleness, strengthening muscles while improving flexibility and coordination.
Morning: Strength & Mobility
Enjoy a balanced program combining mobility exercises with muscle strengthening. Our sessions help you move your joints fully by working both flexibility and strength with precision and control. Integrating mobility into your workouts enhances your overall strength and reduces injury risk. Join us to build your body effectively and safely.
Locomotion + Strength
Discover our locomotion exercises inspired by the agile movements of animals. Each movement is carefully broken down to engage strength, mobility, and coordination. Used as warm-ups or in conjunction with strength training, these movements across different points of support optimize your workout. We combine body weight with equipment like medicine balls, dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, rings, parallettes, and pull-up bars. This complete functional workout not only builds strength but also boosts muscular and cardiovascular endurance.
Our strength classes are designed for everyone, regardless of fitness level. Whether you aim to improve strength, endurance, or mobility, our workouts are adapted to your needs, allowing you to progress at your own pace in a motivating environment. Join us to build muscle, enhance performance, and achieve your health and wellness goals.
Why Choose Functional Training for Muscle Strengthening?
Functional training is a method focused on optimizing movements used in daily life and sports activities. Unlike traditional weightlifting programs, this approach emphasizes multi-directional exercises that engage multiple muscle groups at once. It includes a variety of activities such as lunges, squats, rotations, and deadlifts, often performed with equipment like medicine balls and resistance bands.
The primary benefit of functional training is its ability to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. This holistic improvement leads to enhanced performance in sports and daily activities while reducing injury risk. Whether you’re an athlete, senior, or simply looking to boost overall fitness, functional training offers an effective and enjoyable way to strengthen the body and prepare for life’s everyday challenges.
Here's why choosing these methods can transform your physical and mental well-being:
Enhanced Overall Strength and Endurance
Functional training focuses on movements that mimic daily activities, engaging multiple muscle groups simultaneously. This approach builds more balanced strength and increased endurance. Unlike isolated exercises targeting only one muscle at a time, functional movements engage the entire body, improving neuromuscular coordination. This translates into better performance in daily and sports activities, reducing fatigue and enhancing the ability to sustain prolonged effort.
Injury Prevention Through Functional Movements
By incorporating natural, full-body movements, functional training strengthens not only the primary muscles but also stabilizers, improving balance and proprioception. This approach significantly reduces injury risk, as it prepares the body to respond optimally to unexpected demands. For instance, core strengthening stabilizes the spine, reducing the risk of lower back pain. Additionally, improved joint mobility and flexibility support a fuller range of motion, essential for avoiding strain during physical activities.
Improved Posture and Flexibility
Good posture reflects balanced muscles and adequate flexibility. Functional training targets postural muscles, such as those in the back, shoulders, and core, strengthening the spine and improving body alignment. Meanwhile, stretching and mobility exercises included in the program promote greater muscle and joint flexibility. This not only enhances physical appearance by correcting posture but also helps prevent chronic pain and muscle imbalances often responsible for tension and stiffness.
Suitable for All Levels, from Beginners to Seasoned Athletes
A major advantage of functional training is its adaptability. Whether you're new to training or an experienced athlete, our programs are personalized to meet your specific needs.
For beginners, exercises can be simplified and adjusted in intensity to allow safe and gradual progress. For seasoned athletes, movements can be made more complex and integrated with heavier weights or dynamic variations to continually stimulate strength and performance gains. This adaptability ensures that each participant can benefit from these methods, regardless of fitness level and personal goals.
Choosing functional and strength training means opting for a holistic approach that not only sculpts the body but also improves strength, flexibility, posture, and injury prevention. Adaptable to all levels, these methods offer lasting benefits that contribute to a better quality of life and optimal physical performance.
