Strength and Agility Training

The Strength & Agility class improves the functioning of the muscle chains and their communication with each other. It works mainly on agility, strength, muscular and cardiovascular endurance.

It is an intense, varied and complete training. We work mainly with body weight, but we also use weighted balls, elastics, dumbbells and parallettes.

About this class

Part of the course focuses on animal walks (quadruped exercises) and movement in space, which are different types of running and sprinting.

Quadrupedal movement involves imitating the locomotion of four-legged animals and uses nearly all of the muscles in your body. This type of exercise can help to strengthen your core muscles, including those in your lower back, thighs, and abdomen. Although it may feel awkward at first, once you master the technique, you will experience increased strength and coordination.

This is the most varied and creative class we offer. We work a little bit of everything at the same time in intervals: one block of cardio - pause - one block of muscular endurance - pause - one block of agility exercises - pause - etc.

The Strength and Agility workout is a great way to surprise the body, stimulate its reflexes and get away from the "app effect" which consists of repeating the same movements 4x in the same time intervals. In addition, it is a good preparatory course for calisthenics because the exercises are less demanding in terms of muscle power.

What are agility exercises?

Agility is the ability to change direction, accelerate or decelerate quickly, while maintaining balance and control of the upper and lower body. In the Strength & Agility group class offered at Gymnase, we practice a variety of exercises to improve your athletic performance, reduce the risk of injury, and develop total body strength.

Agility exercises target muscle groups in the lower and upper body, including the abdominals, quadriceps, hamstrings, hip flexors and glutes.

Benefits of agility training

In addition to the satisfaction of developing your dexterity and reflexes, there are important benefits associated with agility training:

Agility training is an effective cardio workout

Like High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), agility training quickly and effectively increases your heart rate to stimulate your core and build strength throughout your body.

Agility training can improve your performance

By focusing on footwork, agility training develops speed, power and coordination. Agility drills are designed to improve your foot speed and directional changes, which can significantly improve your reflexes.
